It’s another month for 23 Paws, thanks to Cinnamon at Eat, Pray, Tri!
Those chilly kitties are seeking warmth wherever they can find it, even if it means sitting on light bulbs! Our housecats have more of a wintry advantage by choosing to stay indoors. Here are some ways they like to stay warm:
The Fireplace – it’s cozy, romantic, mesmerizing:
Solar Heating – energy-efficient and cost-efficient, but prime locations are limited:
Down Comforter – cozy and comfortable, especially when flanked by two warm bodies:
Electric Heating Pad – Sammy’s nighttime retreat to warm his old bones:
What are some ways your house pets like to stay warm? My sister’s German shorthair (she still calls him a puppy) takes up most of her bed and sleeps like a rock!
What about hibernating pets??

Kostas curls into a ball on his dog bed to stay warm!

Aren’t they adorable when they do that? :)

Aw, so cute! I love the heating pad trick :) We don’t have that problem anymore as you can imagine…I think Kona is actually losing his undercoat since we moved to Hawaii to keep himself cooler!

Probably so, no need for that extra coat, anymore! Once we had a wild boar for a pet (my mom caught a piglet in the greenhouse, it was separated from its mother) and we raised it for several years. I remember during the colder months he would grow super curly hair beneath the longer, coarse hair to stay warm. When he started to shed we’d run our fingers through and pull out his “winter coat”. (As kids, we were fascinated with anything!)
So how does Kona like to stay cool? :)

That is amazing that you had a pet wild boar! What was it like temperament wise? Apparently, there are some wild boars in our area, and my dad says he saw one walking across the street one day when he was driving to work!
It’s funny how quickly you adapt to whatever climate you live in. When we first moved back, I felt like it was SO hot and humid, and I needed to shower all the time…now I feel so comfortable, in fact, I’ve felt cold and worn sweatpants recently because it’s been in the low 70s at night!
November 28, 2012 at 09:52
Haha, sweatpants at 70 degrees! I totally agree, though, the initial acclimation is weird, but you get used to dressing for the weather. :) Pigs are smart and clean, believe it or not. They eat in one area, poop in another, and like to sleep where it’s cool (mud). His temperament was fine, we kept him in our old, broken-down swimming pool (the aboveground kind) where the weeds were already growing through the nonexistent bottom. We had corrugated tin roof covering one section so he had shelter. Couple times he broke through the wall by digging & muscling his way through, so my dad & uncles had to reinforce with fencing and steel posts. He only went to the other side of the house looking for food, and my mom lured him back with some pieces of yummy steak she was cooking for dinner. :)

Cute! Oscar is either in the sun or under a blanket. (He’s sitting next to me on the couch under a blanket right now!)
November 26, 2012 at 07:33
Haha, he’s got your body heat, a blanket and a comfy couch! I’m surprised how some animals just can’t get enough of the heat (or sun) and some can withstand the cold like it’s nothing. :)

The photo of your kitty by the fireplace is soo cute! My dog loves it when I turn on the seat warmers in the car while we drive…we gets all warm and cozy, I can tell he’s upset when it’s time to get out of the car!
November 26, 2012 at 15:03
Haha! What a treat for your Charlie, maybe I can do the same to convince our cats riding in a car isn’t all that bad. :)

I love that black and white pic! It’s funny b/c I just got the puppies haircuts today and I felt bad for them on the way home so I turned on the car seat warmers. HA! What we do for our kids….

Why’d you feel bad? Were they chilly with less hair, or did they have that “fresh from the barber” haircut they weren’t comfortable with? Bet they loved the seat warmers! :)
